The Virginia Beach CVB established a new corporate social responsibilty (CSR) program, offering groups a variety of ways to get involved in the community. Planners may choose partner organizations focusing on six key areas: homelessness, hunger and domestic violence; youth and the elderly; the armed forces; environmental protection; community service and international outreach. Organizations include the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Books For Soldiers, the Judeo-Christian Outreach Center and Plan International USA.
The history of the program can be traced back to Hurricane Katrina in 2005, when the VBCVB noticed the hospitality industry placing more importance on giving back and replacing “industry swag” with CSR programs. In 2011 the CVB hosted a successful “One Beach, One World” FAM trip that served as the base for the new program.
