Manhattan’s Javits Center is installing a green roof as part of its renovation and environmental enhancement following the 2010 opening of the new Javits Center North.
Germany-based Xero Flor Solutions was selected to install the 292,800-square-foot green roof, which will be one of the largest in the U.S.
In conjunction with other projects, the roof could reduce the convention center’s energy consumption by more than 25 percent, and the center is looking to achieve LEED Silver certification. The renovation is scheduled for completion by the end of 2013.
