The Transportation Security Administration (TSA), following a committee review of prohibited carry-on items, has decided to no longer prohibit the following items beginning April 25, 2013:
- Small Pocket Knives – Small knives with non-locking blades smaller than 2.36 inches and less than 1/2 inch in width will be permitted
- Small Novelty Bats and Toy Bats
- Ski Poles
- Hockey Sticks
- Lacrosse Sticks
- Billiard Cues
- Golf Clubs (Limit Two)
The policy change is part of an overall Risk-Based Security approach, which allows TSA officers to hone their efforts on finding higher-threat items—such as explosive devices. It also aligns TSA more closely with the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
It was also announced that these similar items will stay on the prohibited carry-on items list: Full-size baseball, softball and cricket bats; and razor blades and box cutters.
