Roanokeās Center in the Square will unveil its $30 million, 19-month renovation this May. The 200,000-square-foot cultural complex is home to the Science Museum of Western Virginia, the History Museum of Western Virginia, the Harrison Museum of African America Culture and Mill Mountain Theater.
Set in the Blue Ridge Mountains and operated by the Western Virginia Foundation for the Arts and Sciences, the Center is located near other popular Roanoke venues and attractions, including the Taubman Museum of Art and the historic Roanoke City Market.
Upgraded areas include new rooftop gardens, a butterfly habitat, jellyfish aquariums and a 6,000-gallon living coral reef. The Center also installed electricity-generating solar panels and a water reclamation system.
The Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center renovated its 75-year-old Regency Room restaurant, creating a new private dining and meeting space.
The unique and locally owned Hotel Floyd is also renovating, adding meeting space and 24 additional room inspired by local business, artisans and residents.
