CLEVELAND
The ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Cleveland Convention Center is scheduled for Friday, June 14 at 2 p.m., followed by a Community Open House on Saturday, June 15, as announced earlier today by Cuyahoga County and Merchandise Mart Properties, Inc.
The ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled to be hosted on Mall C on Friday, June 14 at 2 p.m., featuring Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald, City of Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson, and other dignitaries. Popular WEWS-TV 5 news anchor Leon Bibb will emcee the event. The ribbon cutting ceremony will be open to the public. The Cleveland Orchestra will provide music for the occasion.
On Saturday, June 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Cleveland Convention Center will be opened to the general public for a “Celebrate the Center: Community Open House and Celebration,” including fun interactive displays, team mascot and alumni appearances, and autograph sessions from the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians, and Cleveland Cavaliers. The United States Coast Guard, the 2013 National Senior Summer Games, Positively Cleveland, and the City of Cleveland will also provide informational displays along with live music provided by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The three major league professional sports teams will feature interactive games, kid’s clinics, alumni autograph sessions, ticket information, and appearances by the team mascots and the Cavaliers dance teams. In addition to providing live music on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame stage, the Rock Hall will also offer educational information and discount admission tickets. There will be additional entertainment and celebrity appearances throughout the day, including a performance by the well-known ‘Dancing Wheels’ dance troupe.
In the adjacent Global Center for Health Innovation (formerly known as the Medical Mart), the Northeast Ohio Healthcare Workforce Collaborative will host nearly 40 educational, government, and healthcare organizations at the “Explore the World of Health Careers” in the Global Center junior ballroom to showcase the rich diversity of healthcare occupations and the educational programs which lead to these careers.
The Cleveland Convention Center will host its first event, the 2013 National Senior Summer Games, beginning July 19. The Global Center is scheduled to open in October, hosting the Cleveland Clinic Medical Innovation Summit October 14-16.
