PHILADELPHIA
According to various published reports, the Pennsylvania Convention Center board is voting this week on whether to hire a privately run firm to oversee the facility’s day-to-day operations.
At the vote on Wednesday the board may choose from among three potential management groups—or could commit to retaining the current staff. SMG of Conshohocken and Comcast-owned Global Spectrum are considered the two favorites currently.
Since its launch two decades ago, the venue has been operated by a politically appointed board that oversees a paid group of staffers. The vote comes following a report showing a dramatic drop-off in substantial convention bookings beginning in 2014 and continuing through at least 2016.
