The Westin Cleveland Downtown Hotel, which is scheduled to open next spring, announced a partnership with local artist Sarah Kabot, along with the city’s Landmarks Commission. Kabot will design a centerpiece for the property’s local art program, and pieces by other artists will be displayed in the lobby, guest rooms and public spaces. Currently under construction, the 484-room hotel is located near the new Cleveland Convention Center and Medical Mart. A Cleveland nonprofit called LAND studio gave input into the design of public spaces on the property and has worked with Safe Hospitality to incorporate local artwork into its properties nationwide.
Cincinnati’s Duke Energy Convention Center unveiled a new piece of public art, The Hands That Built This City. The 71-by-44-foot wall mural was created by ArtWorks, a non-profit community organization. The hands reflected in the piece belong to Cincinnati laborers, inspired by a 1931 mosaic piece in Union Terminal, plus current convention center employees and a student artist.
