WOW! Los Cabos

More Coverage

Blessed with a dramatic topography where the desert meets the sea, Los Cabos offers a reliably dry climate that blends adventurous activities with upscale amenities and unique off-site options.

On the southern tip of Baja California, Los Cabos is to Mexico what Southern California, perhaps, is to the U.S.—a laid-back destination that is the envy of the rest of the country. In short, the livin’ is good here, so most everyone who resides here hails from somewhere else in the country, naturally.

One can look at Los Cabos as serving two primary age demographics, with the younger set—under 35—enjoying the nightlife and good times of Cabo San Lucas, and the more-seasoned crowd preferring the less-commercial tranquility of San Jose del Cabo. The Resort Corridor is located between the two.

Besides premiere sportfishing, whale watching and arguably the best golf in Mexico, incentive or meeting attendees can partake in a growing number of attractions and activities that play the area’s dry desert climate to the hilt, including off-road driving, riding three miles of zip lines on a Canopy Costa Azul Xtreme Tour (www.canopycostaazul.com) and up-close dolphin encounters—they’ll actually kiss you—at Cabo Dolphins (www.cabodolphins.com).

An interesting new off-site activity option is offered by Carisuva, located about a 45-minute drive from the primary resort area in Los Cabos. Owned by a trust of more than 50 local families, this sprawling area dotted by cacti features some 25 miles of trails that meander through hills and down to the sea. Groups up to 35—primarily from curis ships in port—have go on horseback rides here for more than six months, bu the trust has expanded its off-road offering by purchasing 10 Yamaha Rhino ATVs and says it is looking to buy more. Carisuva presently can accommodate groups up to 20 people in the two-seater Rhinos for team-building eco-tour events and is also constructing a visitors' center.

Another off-road option—using Hummers instead of the comparable demure but more nimble Rhinos—is offered by Baja Outback (www.bajaoutback.com).

A high-end shopping experience is available at Las Tiendas de Palmilla (www.lastiendasdepalmilla.com), which also boasts perhaps the top restaurant in the destination, Nick San specializing in exquisitely prepared sushi.
