What are three of the greatest ways for groups to experience the retro revival ambience of Palm Springs?
  • Renting Retro Homes: Meeting- and convention-goers can experience a real blast from Palm Springs’ past by renting and holding an event or party in a number of authentic retro homes. Frank Sinatra’s Twin Palms Estate, where he lived with Ava Gardner, is available, complete with a piano-shaped swimming pool. The cool modern hillside home of Papa John Phillips of The Mammas and The Pappas fame is also available, along with the Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe home and the Jack Warner Estate, former home of the Warner Brothers Studios co-founder. For information and a complete list of Palm Springs homes that may be used as venues, visit www.timeandplace.com.

  • Mid-Century Modern Tours: PS Modern Tours is led by mid-century modern expert Robert Imber. The Albert Frey Movie Colony Hotel, Alexander’s “House of Tomorrow” (more commonly know as the “Elvis Honeymoon Hideaway”) and John Lautner’s flying saucer home for Bob Hope are all on the tour. The Palm Springs Preservation Foundation also runs an annual tour of modern attractions, and the Palm Springs Modern Committee holds an annual open house tour in October. The annual Palm Springs Modernism Show and Sale is also held each February.

  • North Palm Canyon Drive: North Palm Canyon Drive, also known as the Uptown Heritage Galleries and Antiques District, is a must for anyone wanting to shop for items from Palm Springs’ mid-century modern heyday. The area is chock full of design centers, art galleries, furniture shops, and antique stores.
