  • The Sheraton Wild Horse Pass Resort & Spa in Phoenix hired Bob Sweeney as a national sales manager. Most recently serving as director of sales for the Tempe Mission Palms Hotel, he is responsible for securing meeting and event business from the Southwest U.S. region.

California
  • The Pasadena CVB appointed Monica Smith, CMP, CASE, as its new director of sales. In addition to overseeing the CVB’s four-person sales staff, Smith is responsible for developing sales strategies that promote the Pasadena Convention Center, which is currently undergoing a $121 million expansion, and working with Pasadena hotels to generate group sales. Smith joins the Pasadena CVB from nearby Newport Beach, where she served as vice president of sales for the Newport Beach Conference and Visitors Bureau…The San Jose CVB promoted Diana Ponton to vice president of sales. The bureau also recently hired Kimberly Mladenik as national sales manager responsible for booking corporate meetings and events based in the Western U.S., and Sharon de Araujo as senior sales manager for the local corporate, social and consumer show markets. Ponton had served the SJCVB as director of sales for the previous five years. Mladenik joins the SJCVB from the Argent Hotel San Francisco, where she served as a national sales manager. Ms. de Araujo joined the SJCVB from Centerplate, a provider of catering, concessions and facilities management services for entertainment and convention venues… Pebble Beach Resorts recently appointed Coni Thornburg as general manager of The Lodge at Pebble Beach. Thornburg comes to The Lodge at Pebble Beach from Denver, where she served as general manager for Hotel Teatro, a luxury boutique hotel.

Hawaii
  • Benchmark Hospitality appointed Robert Boyle as vice president and general manager for Turtle Bay Resort, located on Oahu’s North Shore. Boyle was promoted from his position as managing director of the resort…Randall Tanaka was promoted to assistant general manager, Michael Polovcin was named senior director of operations and capital improvements, and June Matsumoto was appointed director of international sales for the Hawaii Convention Center. As assistant general manager, Tanaka is responsible for overseeing event management as well as the sales and marketing department of the facility. He was previously the center’s director of business development and industry relations. Polovcin is now responsible for all major capital improvement projects, including the center’s new annual $3 million capital improvements program. Polovcin previously served as the convention center’s director of operations. As director of international sales, Matsumoto is responsible for further development of the center’s international attendance building program. Prior to her promotion, Matsumoto served as associate director of sales, international markets…Kelly Sanders was appointed general manager of the Sheraton Waikiki. He joins the Sheraton Waikiki from the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina, where he also served as general manager.
