- The former Fifth Avenue Suites in downtown Portland was reflagged the Hotel Monaco Portland (503.222.0001; www.monaco-portland.com) following a renovation of all 221 guest rooms. Enhancements include DVD players, flat-panel plasma TVs and high-speed wireless and hard-wired Internet service.
- The 79-room Ace Hotel Portland (503.228.2277; www.acehotel.com) opened in downtown Portland in February with 2,400 square feet of meeting space. Converted from the Clyde Hotel, which opened in 1912, the boutique property offers touches such as claw-foot bathtubs and Pendleton wool blankets. Two on-site restaurants are in the planning stages.
- The Doubletree Hotel and Executive Meeting Center Portland–Lloyd Center (503.281.6111; www.doubletree.com) has earned certification from Green Seal, a nonprofit organization that encourages hotels to adopt stringent environmental standards and practices in their operations. The 476-room hotel, the largest hotel west of the Mississippi to receive certification, hosted the national conference of the Green Meetings Council in February.
- Portland’s newest transport option is the Portland Aerial Tram (www.portlandtram.com), two 78-passenger gondolas that provide panoramic views of the Willamette River and Mt. Hood on a three-minute journey from the downtown South Waterfront District to the hilltop campus of the Oregon Health and Science University.
Coastal Oregon
- The Surfsand Resort (503.436.2774; www.surfsand.com) in Cannon Beach will complete the second phase of a major renovation and expansion in July. A new ocean-view wing will give the property a total of 106 guest rooms, many with fireplaces, spa tubs and wet bars, and 6,000 square feet of meeting space. The expansion also includes a new pool house with a fitness center and sauna.
