North Shore
  • The Ritz-Carlton Highlands, Lake Tahoe (800.241.3333; www.ritzcarlton.com) is scheduled to open in late 2009 as Lake Tahoe’s first five-star hotel. The $300 million property will be a ski-in/ski-out resort with 173 guest units, a 20,000-square-foot spa and 11,000 square feet of meeting space. The property is part of The Highlands, a new residential resort community at Northstar-at-Tahoe.

  • Cal Neva Resort Hotel and Casino (800.233.5551; www.calnevaresort.com) will soon begin a $60 million to $70 million renovation that will include a new 10,000-square-foot spa.

  • The Village at Squaw Valley (530.584.6227; www.thevillageatsquaw.com) added 1,200 square feet of meeting space in autumn 2006, bringing its total to 4,300 square feet.

  • The Resort at Squaw Creek (530.583.6300; www.squawcreek.com) completed a spa renovation in December.

  • Granlibakken Conference Center and Lodge (877.552.6301; www.granlibakken.com) opened a new restaurant named Cedar House Pub this winter.

South Shore
  • In May, ground will be broken for a new 50,000-square-foot convention center (530.544.5050; www.bluelaketahoe.com) developed by Falcon Capital across from Heavenly Village. It will include a 322-room condo-hotel property as well as another lodging property, plus restaurant and retail space. The conference center will be capable of accommodating up to 5,000 for concerts or theater-style seating, and offer several smaller breakout rooms. Completion is projected for late 2009 or early 2010.

  • Harrah’s Lake Tahoe (800.235.6358; www.harrahs.com) has several upgrades scheduled for completion in July 2007. Additions include several new 17th-floor Summit Suite guest rooms and a new nightclub, cocktail lounge and high-end Asian restaurant. Guest room upgrades are also planned.

  • In late 2006, Harveys Lake Tahoe Casino and Resort (800.235.6358; www.harrahs.com) completed several enhancements, including the renovation of its Cabaret Showroom and balcony suites, upgrades to its Mountain Tower and Sage Room Steak House, the addition of a new restaurant, and the expansion of its Cabo Wabo restaurant. Also slated are guest room renovations and a casino remodel.

  • Caesars Tahoe was converted to MontBleu Resort, Casino and Spa (775.588.3515; www.montbleuresort.com) in May 2006. The 440-room property features a redesigned 40,000-square-foot casino, 16,000 square feet of meeting space, seven restaurants, and four nightlife venues.

  • In March 2006, the 400-room Embassy Suites Hotel Lake Tahoe Resort (530.544.5400; www.embassytahoe.com) completed a multimillion-dollar renovation that expanded meeting space by 2,500 square feet, giving the property a total of 10,000 square feet, added wireless technology throughout the hotel and enhanced dining service.

  • Deerfield Lodge at Heavenly (888.757.3337; www.tahoedeerfieldlodge.com) debuted last August with 12 large suites and rooms and one meeting room.
