- The Portola Plaza Hotel at Monterey Bay (831.649.4511; www.portolaplazahotel.com) completed a renovation of its 10 guest suites in March. In addition to its suites, the hotel contains 369 guest rooms and is also attached to the Monterey Conference Center, offering a combined 50,000 square feet of meeting space.
- The Cannery Row Hotel (831.375.4500; www.phmhotels.com), a $70 million oceanfront property located along Monterey’s Cannery Row next to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, is slated to open by summer 2008 with 208 guest rooms and 10,200 square feet of meeting space.
- The Hyatt Regency Monterey (831.372.1234; www.monterey.hyatt.com) began a $45 million renovation last fall. The project is taking place in stages, with the refurbishment of the hotel’s lobby, restaurant and lounge completed in February and the rest of the renovation, which includes upgrades to the hotel’s guest rooms and the addition of an 8,000-square-foot spa, scheduled for completion early next year. The 575-room hotel contains 40,000 square feet of meeting space.
- The Monterey Hotel (831.375.3184; www.montereyhotel.com) plans to wrap up an $8 million expansion by fall 2008. The project includes the addition of 24 guest rooms, 454 square feet of additional meeting space and a new spa. The hotel currently houses 45 guest rooms and 796 square feet of meeting space.
Monterey Environs
- Fairmont Hotels and Resorts (800.257.7544; www.fairmont.com) plans to unveil a $100 million hotel in Seaside by late 2009. The property will feature 330 guest rooms, 24,000 square feet of meeting space, a 1,000-square-foot spa, and residential units.
Carmel
- La Playa Hotel (831.624.6476; www.laplayahotel.com) in Carmel-by-the-Sea completed a soft goods guest room and restaurant renovation last year. The hotel sports 75 guest rooms and 5,000 square feet of function space.
- The 26-acre Bernardus Lodge (888.648.9463; www.bernardus.com) in Carmel Valley plans to finish a fitness center renovation by the end of this spring. The 57-room property has 4,000 square feet of indoor meeting space and 5,000 square feet of outdoor space.
- Carmel Valley Ranch (831.625.9500; www.carmelvalleyranch.com) plans to complete a $60 million renovation in early 2008. The refurbishment includes upgrades to guest suites, the addition of 1,000 square feet of meeting space, and enhancements to the lobby, meeting space and restaurant. The 144-suite hotel currently houses 6,000 square feet of function space.
Santa Cruz
- A meeting space renovation is scheduled to begin this winter at Chaminade (831.457.5600; www.chaminade.com). The project will include upgrades to conference rooms and the addition of 1,500 square feet of meeting space. The hotel, located in Aptos, also wrapped up a $6 million guest room renovation at the end of 2006.
- The Best Western Seacliff Inn (831.688.7300; www.seacliffinn.com) in Aptos plans to finish a guest room renovation this spring. The 149-room hotel houses 3,084 square feet of function space.
