Museums & Attractions
  • The New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) is presenting the exhibition Femme, femme, femme: Paintings of Women in French Society from Daumier to Picasso from the Museums of France through June 3. The exhibition, which is being shown exclusively at the NOMA, is a fulfillment of a promise made to New Orleans from the French minister of culture and communication and the president/director of the Louvre during a visit to the city two months after Hurricane Katrina. With paintings by a wide range of artists, including Manet, Degas and Toulouse-Lautrec, Femme, femme, femme celebrates the emergence of the modern woman through an exhibition of 83 paintings from the Louvre, the Musée d’Orsay and 43 other significant museums throughout France. For more information, including group ticket prices, call the NOMA at 504.658.4100 or visit www.noma.org.

  • The city of Memphis is celebrating its soul music heritage throughout the year with its Memphis Celebrates 50 Years of Soul program. The promotional program is based on the 50th anniversaries of the founding of legendary music label Stax Records and Royal Studio, home to Hi Records, both of which were instrumental in shaping the Memphis sound and the careers of such iconic music figures as Al Green, Otis Redding, Isaac Hayes, Sam & Dave, the Staple Singers, and Booker T & The MGs, among many others. Throughout the year, Memphis Celebrates 50 Years of Soul will feature live performances, special events and exhibitions relating to Memphis’ soul heritage.
