Executive Director
OFA–An Association of Floriculture Professionals
Columbus, Ohio

Describe your event.

Our event brings 10,000 professionals in from around the world to the Greater Columbus Convention Center, and it’s the largest greenhouse/floriculture event in North America.

Why did you decide to host the meeting in Columbus?
We have a history here as well as relationships with the hospitality industry.

What surprised you the most about Columbus?
The area surrounding the convention center is a continuing pleasant surprise for me. As it develops with new restaurants and attractions, there are more opportunities for attendees and exhibitors to spend time together outside the event.

What did your attendees seem to enjoy the most?
It’s an opportunity to get a great deal of business done with the decision makers in the industry. We have 120 educational sessions, so professional development is a big part of the event.

Was anybody particularly helpful?
Paul Astleford and his team at Experience Columbus [Greater Columbus CVB] work hard to make this a win-win event for us.

What were some of the challenges you experienced?
Columbus has many advantages, but our one challenge is the hotel package. The convention center is a fantastic facility, and there are some excellent hotel properties, but not the quantity and quality to serve events of this size. I believe that with the ongoing development, that challenge will be met in the near future.

What other types of groups would fit well with the property?
Groups of 10,000 to 20,000 fit very comfortably in this venue. The layout is ideal if you have both a tradeshow and educational sessions happening at the same time.

How does Columbus compare to other cities where you have hosted meetings?
It’s very comfortable, with many cultural and academic opportunities.

Would you return?
Yes.
