Greater Phoenix
  • A W Hotel and Residences (877.W.HOTELS; www.starwood.com) is scheduled to open next year in downtown Phoenix with 190 guest rooms, 10,000 square feet of meeting space and a Bliss spa.

  • The 202-room Le Meridien at Tempe Town Lake (888.625.5144; www.starwoodhotels.com) is scheduled to open in 2009 as part of Hayden Ferry Lakeside, a master-planned, mixed-use complex in Tempe. The property will feature meeting facilities.

  • The Boulders Resort and Golden Door Spa (480.488.9009; www.theboulders.com) in Carefree has a new venue, the Organic Garden, available for cocktail receptions, sunset dinners, wine tastings, and other events. Bordered by boulder formations, the garden can seat up to 50 people in a setting that includes a citrus orchard, a reflection pond and elevated planter boxes with herbs, vegetables and edible flowers.

  • Rancho De Los Caballeros (928.684.5484; www.sunc.com), a 79-unit guest ranch in Wickenburg east of Phoenix, recently opened a full-service spa with eight treatment rooms, most with private entrances and patios. The ranch, which offers a 4,500-square-foot conference center, caters to small meetings and corporate retreats.

Scottsdale
  • The 224-room W Scottsdale Hotel and Residences (877.W.HOTELS; www.starwood.com) is set to open this fall in downtown Scottsdale. The property will include a 3,500-square-foot ballroom, a large outdoor terrace and three conference rooms. There will also be a Bliss spa and an infinity-edge pool.

  • The InterContinental Montelucia Resort, Spa and Residences (602.956.9400; www.montelucia.com), formerly the La Posada Resort, will open in Scottsdale early next year. The 292-room luxury property will feature a Spanish architectural style and offer amenities such as a 30,000-square-foot spa, five pools and 31,000 square feet of indoor meeting space.

  • Following an extensive renovation, the former James Hotel recently reopened in downtown Scottsdale as the Mondrian Scottsdale (480.308.1100; www.mondrianscottsdale.com). The 202-room property features Asia de Cuba restaurant, Skybar lounge, a full-service spa, and 10,000 square feet of function space.

  • The former Hampton Inn in downtown Scottsdale has been converted to the Hotel Indigo Scottsdale (480.941.9400; www.ichotelsgroup.com), a boutique property that is part of the InterContinental Hotel Group’s new Indigo brand. The hotel offers concierge service, a business center and 126 guest rooms appointed with spa showers, high-definition TVs, and stereos with MP3 player connections.

  • Kimpton Hotel and Restaurant Group, which acquired the former Caleo Resort and Spa in December 2005, has renamed the property Firesky Resort and Spa (480.945.7666; www.fireskyresort.com). The property features 240 newly renovated guest rooms, the new Jurlique Spa, a new lobby lounge, and 14,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting space.

  • The Phoenician (480.941.8200; www.thephoenician.com) recently completed a $5.5 million renovation of 60 suites in The Canyon Suites building. The suites are being positioned as a luxury boutique hotel within a hotel, with its own lobby, pool area, butler service, and new high-tech boardroom.

  • Southbridge (www.southbridgescottsdale.com), a new “urban village” development of shops, restaurants and residences, is set to open this spring on the south bank of the Scottsdale irrigation canal system. Its retail component will include The Mix, three buildings with one-of-a-kind restaurants, fashion boutiques and shops.

Northern Arizona
  • L’Auberge de Sedona (926.282.1661; wwww.lauberge.com) recently completed a renovation of its five meeting rooms that featured the installation of updated technology, including plasma screens. The 56-unit resort offers 5,300 square feet of function space.

Western Arizona
  • The Days Inn Lake Havasu (928.855.7941; www.thehavasuinn.com), formerly the Havasu Inn, recently completed a renovation of all 90 guest rooms and added a small meeting room.

Southern Arizona
  • Construction is under way on a 150-room Hilton Garden Inn (877.STAYHGI; www.hiltongardeninn.com) in downtown Yuma. The hotel will be adjacent to a conference center for which plans are still under review.

  • The 400-room Vistoso Resort and Spa (609.448.2476; www.vistosoresortcasitas.org) is set to open in late 2008 near the 18-hole Golf Club at Vistoso in Oro Valley near Tucson. The condo-hotel property is a development of Texas-based Aimbridge Hospitality.

  • The 120-unit Embassy Suites Tucson–La Paloma Village (520.591.3857; www.embassysuites.com) is slated to debut in Tucson in August. The property will feature 3,260 square feet of meeting space.

  • The 244-room Westward Look Resort (520.722.2500; www.westwardlook.com) in Tucson was recently sold for $31 million to San Diego-based American Property Management Corp., which is planning to renovate the property.

  • Loews Ventana Canyon Resort (520.299.2020; www.loewshotels.com) recently completed a $10.5 million renovation of its 398 guest rooms. The project included the addition of oversized bathtubs and plasma-screen TVs.

  • ExpressJet Airlines (888.958.9538; www.expressjet.com) recently added new Tucson International Airport service that includes daily nonstop flights to Austin, Texas; Kansas City, Mo.; Sacramento, Calif.; and Ontario, Calif. The airline also plans to inaugurate service from Tucson to San Antonio this summer.
