Bangalore has worked hard for all its nicknames—in many ways a huge business park done right, the city also has plenty of places where stressed-out programmers and high-tech titans can do a sort of debug on their busy lives.
Courtesy of India’s Ministry of Tourism (www.incredibleindia.org), here are some of the highlights:
Cubbon Park
Designed in 1864, this 250-acre urban oasis was built for long walks and days out with the kids. It hosts a children's amusement park, a doll museum and a toy train for children. Its Vijayranga Theater complex screens children's films and stage plays.
Lalbagh Gardens
Bangalore's other sprawling park is in the south of the city. Designed in 1760, the gardens cover 240 acres. Glass House, inspired by the Crystal Palace in London, is the focal point of the lush getaway and hosts a huge flower show every August.
Fun World
Fun World is a 12-acre amusement park tucked into Palace Grounds, Bangalore. All the stomach-churning rides and sticky concoctions that make kids bounce off the walls are here.
Bangalore Aquarium
For the fish it’s a park, of sorts, but for humans it’s a great place to get Zen while contemplating the graceful tranquility of our underwater friends. The second-largest aquarium in the country, a large array of aquatic life is on display.
