Charleston
  • Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide recently broke ground on a 140-unit aloft hotel (914.640.8100; www.starwoodhotels.com/alofthotels) in North Charleston. The property, which will be located across from the Charleston Area Convention Center Complex, will include aloft signature design features such as exposed beams and structural steel, and guest rooms with nine-foot ceilings and oversized windows to allow for more natural light. Each guest room will feature hookups for Blackberries, cell phones, MP3 players, and laptops. The property is scheduled to open in 2008.

  • Hilton Hotels (800.HILTONS; www.hilton.com) plans to debut a new property on upper King Street in spring 2009. The hotel will feature 185 guest rooms and 3,000 square feet of meeting space.

  • A Courtyard by Marriott (888.236.2427; www.marriott.com/courtyard) is scheduled to open in Mt. Pleasant in fall 2007. The 130-room hotel will offer 3,000 square feet of meeting space.

  • The Holiday Inn Historic District (843.805.7900; www.charlestonhotel.com) in downtown Charleston recently purchased the building adjacent to the property and will integrate the space into its inventory. Construction will begin next year on the transformation of the building, which will add 30 guest rooms and 5,000 square feet of meeting space to the hotel’s current inventory of 126 guest units and three meeting rooms.

  • The Charleston Marriott (843.723.3000; www.marriott.com/chsmc), formerly the Charleston Riverview Hotel, reopened in May following a $32 million renovation. The enhancements included upgrades to its 340 guest rooms, restaurant and 15,000 square feet of meeting space. Other amenities include a fitness center, a pool and Jacuzzi, spa services, and a rooftop bar overlooking the Ashley River.

  • The Mills House Hotel (843.577.2400; www.millshouse.com), which was built in 1853, completed an $11 million restoration in January. The project included major upgrades to guest rooms, public areas and meeting facilities, including the installation of soundproof airwalls. The woodwork and 19th century marble in the property’s lobbies were also completely restored. The Mills House Hotel offers 6,000 square feet of meeting space.

Isle of Palms
  • Wild Dunes Resort (888.778.1876; www.wilddunes.com) opened the Sweetgrass Pavilion last August. The new meeting and event facility features 10,000 square feet of space. There are also plans for the addition of the Village at Wild Dunes, which will encompass more than 100 suites across the street from the Sweetgrass Pavilion. Phase one of construction is set for completion at the end of this year and will include 115 guest units, while a new restaurant and other amenities will be unveiled in 2008.
