Golden Isles
- The former Holiday Inn Jekyll Island has been purchased by the Jekyll Island Club Hotel (912.635.2600; www.jekyllclub.com), which plans to begin construction on a hotel and freestanding restaurant and bar at the site before the end of the year. Plans include eight to 10 upscale cottage-style accommodations that will be called the Beach Village at the Jekyll Island Club and 60 rooms that will resemble the Cherokee and Crane cottages the hotel currently offers. The property is also in the process of expanding its ballroom by 5,000 square feet. When the project is finished in summer 2009, the ballroom will measure 7,200 square feet.
