- The Charleston Riverview Hotel was reflagged the Charleston Marriott (843.723.3000; www.marriott.com) in June after a facility-wide renovation. The 340-room hotel offers 15,000 square feet of meeting space.
- The Mills House Hotel (843.577.2400; www.millshouse.com) completed an $11 million restoration in January. The hotel, which was originally built in 1853, updated its 214 guest rooms, 6,000 square feet of meeting space and public space as part of the project.
- At press time, the Courtyard Charleston Downtown/Riverview (843.722.7229; www.marriott.com/chscy) planned to finish a lobby, meeting space and restaurant upgrade by the end of August. The hotel has 178 guest rooms and 1,800 square feet of meeting space.
- Starwood Hotels & Resorts plans to open the aloft Charleston Airport & Convention Center (914.640.8100; www.starwood.com) in summer 2008. The property will feature 136 guest rooms as well as meeting space.
- The Courtyard Charleston Mt. Pleasant (843.284.0900; www.marriott.com/chscm) is expected to open by late October with 130 guest rooms and roughly 2,100 square feet of meeting space.
- The Residence Inn Charleston Mt. Pleasant (843.881.1599; www.marriott.com/chsmp) plans to begin a renovation by the end of this year, updating public spaces as well as soft goods in its guest suites. The project is scheduled for completion in early March. The hotel offers guests 90 suites and 500 square feet of meeting space.
- The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa (843.681.4000; www.westin.com/hilton head) completed a guest corridor renovation in March and opened its 8,000-square-foot Heavenly Spa by Westin in April. The hotel offers 412 guest rooms and 28,200 square feet of meeting space.
- The Hilton Head Marriott Resort & Spa (843.686.8400; www.hiltonheadmarriott.com) finished a renovation of its guest bathrooms and oceanfront deck and added a new restaurant and bar in April. The hotel also opened its new Spa Soleil Aug. 1. The hotel houses 513 guest rooms and 40,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting space.
- Hilton Head’s Hilton Oceanfront Resort (843.842.8000; www.hiltonoceanfrontresort.com) plans to finish a renovation of its dining outlets in February. The 323-room hotel has 15,000 square feet of meeting space.
- The Sea Pines Resort (843.785.3333; www.seapines.com) on Hilton Head Island plans to open Heron Point by Pete Dye, its third golf course, this month. The 5,000-acre resort offers 425 guest rooms, 10,000 square feet of meeting space at its Plantation Club venue and 10,000 square feet of space at the Harbour Town Conference Center.
- The Marina Inn at Grande Dunes (843.913.1333; www.marinainnatgrandedunes.com) opened in Myrtle Beach last November. The hotel offers 180 guest units and 15,000 square feet of function space.
- Bay Watch Resort & Conference Center (843.272.4600; www.baywatchresort.com), a condo-hotel in North Myrtle Beach, plans to finish a guest unit renovation next spring. The property has 362 rentable guest units and 7,200 square feet of meeting space.
- The Beach Cove Resort (843.918.9000; www.beachcove.com) is scheduled to finish a meeting space renovation next summer. The condo-hotel, located in North Myrtle Beach and part of Endless Fun Hotels and Resorts, offers 308 rentable units and more than 7,000 square feet of meeting space.
- The Hard Rock Park (843.236.7625; www.hardrockpark.com) is scheduled to open in May in Myrtle Beach. The 140-acre park will feature five roller coasters, several dining venues and a variety of live entertainment venues. Several areas will be available for group rental.
Inland South Carolina
- The Hilton Columbia Center (803.744.7800; www.hiltoncolumbia.com) opened in August. The 222-room hotel has 5,956 square feet of meeting space and is located near the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.
- Columbia’s Holiday Inn City Centre at USC was reflagged the Courtyard Columbia Downtown at USC (803.799.7800; www.marriott.com) July 3 after a complete interior upgrade. The hotel contains 189 guest rooms and 5,800 square feet of meeting space.
- The Sheraton Columbia Downtown Hotel (803.988.1400; www.sheraton.com) is slated to open in early 2008. The hotel, situated in the old Palmetto National Bank Building in Columbia’s downtown, will house 135 guest rooms as well as meeting space.
- The Carolina First Center (864.233.2562; www.palmettoexpo.com) in Greenville plans to finish a $22 million facility-wide renovation next spring. The venue offers 315,000 square feet of exhibit space and 88,000 square feet of meeting space.
- The Hyatt Regency Greenville (864.235.1234; www.greenville.hyatt.com) completed a $5.2 million guest room, meeting space and fitness center renovation in January. The 328-room property has 24,000 square feet of meeting space.
- The Palmetto Room at Historic Old Town (803.329.1833; www.palmettoroom.com) opened in downtown Rock Hill in July. The 5,300-square-foot facility houses 3,400 square feet of space for groups and can accommodate up to 280 people for a seated dinner and about 375 for a cocktail reception.
- The Chapman Cultural Center (864.583.2776; www.chapmanculturalcenter.org), a five-acre complex in downtown Spartanburg, is slated to open Oct. 3 with a 500-seat theater, an art museum, a history museum, a science center, a dance center, and a gallery. Several areas of the center will be available for group events.
