- A 300-room Crowne Plaza (www.ihg.com) is planned for a site two miles from Baltimore–Washington International Airport. Expected to open in 2010, the hotel will be part of a $350 million mixed-use complex called Grand Isle Resort that will also include a 90,000-square-foot conference center, an indoor waterpark, an entertainment village, full-service spa, and a 200-room Hotel Indigo (www.hotelindigo.com).
- Two Hilton-branded properties (www.hilton.com), a 150-room Hilton Garden Inn and a 100-room Homewood Suites by Hilton, are scheduled to open in fall 2008 in a shared 11-story building off the Baltimore/Washington Parkway near Baltimore/Washington International Airport. The hotels will have separate lobbies, but will share amenities such as meeting space, a restaurant and a resort-style pool.
Chicago
- The 369-room Doubletree Hotel Chicago-O’Hare Rosemont (www.doubletree.com) was recently acquired by Dow Hotel Co., which is planning a multi-million dollar renovation of the property that will include a new restaurant. The hotel, which offers 19,000 square feet of meeting space, recently completed a refurbishment of all guest rooms.
Dallas
- Benchmark Hospitality International will operate the Lakeside Resort & Residences (www.benchmarkhospitality.com), a 238-room condo-hotel to be located on Lake Grapevine in the Dallas-Forth Worth Metroplex near Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. The property, set to open in fall 2008, will include a 25,000-square-foot conference center, two restaurants with lake views, a full-service spa, event space, and an outdoor pool with a lazy river feature.
Honolulu
- The recently reflagged OHANA Honolulu Airport Hotel (www.outrigger.com) has completed a $6 million renovation. The project included the refurbishment of all guest rooms, including new bedding, black-out draperies, local artwork, refrigerators, and TVs with on-demand movies. A new OHANA Airport Connection amenity package includes free local and long-distance telephone calls, Internet access, daily newspaper, and shuttle service to the airport.
Indianapolis
- Preliminary approvals have been granted to build a $60 million, 250-room Westin at Indianapolis International Airport (www.westin.com). The hotel will house in-lobby video monitors of arriving and departing flights, an indoor pool, a restaurant, and meeting space. The hotel will be linked to the airport terminal by a moving walkway.
Jacksonville, Fla.
- Construction is under way on the 175-room Embassy Suites Jacksonville Airport (www.embassysuites.com), which will include 10,000 square feet of meeting space. The property is expected to open in September 2008.
Miami
- Thayer Lodging Group has acquired a complex of Marriott-branded hotels (www.marriott.com), at Miami International Airport and is planning a $65 million makeover for the properties, which will continue to be operated by Marriott. Changes to the 366-room Marriott Miami Airport will include the conversion of its lobby to the Marriott “Great Room” concept. Work on the 126-room Courtyard by Marriott Miami Airport South will include a complete renovation, set for completion by the end of this year, and the addition of a 174-room tower, opening in 2009. Thayer Lodging Group is also planning to construct a 160-room Residence Inn by Marriott in the same complex.
Montreal
- Starwood Hotels & Resorts (www.starwood.com) plans to open an aloft hotel adjacent to Montreal’s Pierre Elliot Trudeau International Airport in 2008. The aloft Dorval will feature 136 loft-like guest rooms, a lounge and 24-hour food service.
Portland, Ore.
- A 136-room aloft hotel (www.starwood.com) is scheduled to open in late summer 2008 at Cascade Station, a mixed-use complex under development on a site adjacent to Portland International Airport. When completed, Cascade Station, which is linked to both the airport and downtown Portland by light rail, will include additional hotels, restaurants, retail space, and offices.
- A 127-room Hyatt Place (www.hyattplace.com) is scheduled to open near Portland International Airport in winter 2008.
San Francisco
- A 158-room Hyatt Place (www.hyattplace.com) is set to open neat San Francisco International Airport in winter 2008.
