- Construction is under way on The Nines (303.595.7200; www.sagehospitality.com), a new hotel that will occupy the top nine floors of Portland’s Meier & Frank Building, while Macy’s will occupy its bottom five floors. The hotel will offer 330 guest rooms and 14,000 square feet of meeting space.
- Starwood recently broke ground on an aloft hotel (914.640.8100; www.alofthotels.com) near Portland International Airport. The hotel is slated to open in late summer 2008 with 136 guest rooms as well as meeting facilities.
- Ace Hotel Portland (503.228.2277; www.acehotel.com) opened June 1. The property, formerly Portland’s Clyde Hotel, offers 79 guest rooms and 1,200 square feet of meeting space.
- Doubletree Hotel & Executive Meeting Center Portland–Llyod Center (503.281.6111; www.doubletree.com) plans to complete renovations to its lobby, guest rooms, fitness center, exterior, and some meeting space in February. The hotel is located four blocks from the Oregon Convention Center and houses 476 guest rooms and 50,000 square feet of meeting space.
- Hilton Portland & Executive Tower (503.226.1611; www.hilton.com) recently completed renovations to its guest bathrooms and upgraded its pavilion level, which includes 12,000 square feet of meeting space. The hotel plans to finish a fitness center upgrade by the end of the year. The downtown hotel offers 782 guest rooms and 65,000 square feet of meeting space.
- Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront Hotel (503.449.6360; www.portlandmarriott.com) recently wrapped up an $8.5 million guest room and meeting space upgrade. The hotel, located a few blocks from the convention center, houses 503 guest rooms, 25,000 square feet of meeting space and a 15,000-square-foot exhibition hall.
- The historic Benson Hotel (503.228.2000; www.bensonhotel.com) recently renovated its Lobby Court Restaurant and renamed it The Palm Court, and updated its lobby and 6,000-square-foot Mayfair Ballroom. The hotel houses 287 guest rooms and 16,000 square feet of meeting space.
- The 5th Avenue Suites Hotel was transformed into Hotel Monaco Portland (503.222.0001; www.monaco-portland.com) in March after a $4 million renovation. The 221-room hotel offers 6,000 square feet of meeting space.
- Construction is under way on an extension to Portland’s mass transit system, Metropolitan Area Express (MAX) (503.962.6403; www.trimet.org). The train’s new Green Line will open in fall 2009 and connect Union Station to Portland State University, traveling through Portland’s downtown at no charge to passengers.
Vancouver
- Springhill Suites Vancouver Columbia Tech Center (360.260.1000; www.marriott.com) opened in May with 119 guest rooms and 1,500 square feet of meeting space.
- Red Lion Hotel Vancouver at the Quay (360.694.8341; www.redlion.com) completed upgrades to its guest rooms, meeting space, lobby, lounge, and restaurant in December. The hotel offers 160 guest rooms and 14,800 square feet of meeting space.
- Phoenix Inn Suites, Vancouver (360.891.9777; www.phoenixinn.com/vancouver) completed a guest room, meeting space and public space renovation in early 2007.
- Shilo Inn & Suites Salmon Creek (360.573.0511; www.shiloinns.com), a limited-service property near Interstate 5, recently completed a property-wide facelift.
- Best Western Battle Ground Inn & Suites (360.687.8881; www.bestwestern.com) opened in Battle Ground in May. The hotel offers 46 guest rooms and one meeting room that can accommodate up to 60 people.
- Rusty Grape Vineyard (360.513.9338; www.rustygrape.com) opened in Battle Ground last October. The winery offers several spaces for groups, including its outdoor patio, available for up to 50 people, and its indoor tasting room, which hosts up to 30 people. The venue plans to open an additional event meeting room for events of up to 60 people in February.
