Museums & Attractions
  • The Muzeo, an art museum scheduled to open this month in downtown Anaheim, Calif., is debuting with the exhibit, Imperial Rome: Discovering the Ancient Civilization. The exhibit features 450 artifacts on loan from more than 15 Italian museums. Items on display include an altar, sarcophagi, urns, ceramics, bronze and marble statues, cameos and other jewelry, and a selection of Roman coins. The Muzeo will offer an exhibit hall, museum space and a history center on the ground floor and is one of six mixed-use developments of Anaheim’s downtown revitalization project. For more information, call 714.95.MUZEO or visit www.muzeo.org.

  • The Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center reopened Aug. 4 after a $28.4 million transformation. The two-story, 48,000-square-foot expansion, conceived by award-winning architect David Owen Tryba, was designed to complement the original 1936 John Gaw Meem building, which has housed the center for the past 70 years. The permanent collection features one of the largest compilations of Native American and Southwestern art in the country, as well as a $2 million collection of Dale Chihuly glass. On the books is the exhibit Impressionist and Modern Masters, scheduled to run Dec. 8 through Mar. 9, 2008. The exhibit is traveling from the New Orleans Museum of Art and features artists such as Picasso, Degas, Monet, and Renoir. For more information, call 719.634.5581 or visit www.csfineartscenter.org.
