- The Levine Museum of the New South in Charlotte, N.C., is running the exhibit Comic Stripped: A Revealing Look at Southern Stereotypes in Cartoons. The exhibit chronicles work from the 19th century Reconstruction-era drawings of political artist Thomas Nast through the present day. Some of the cartoon characters on display include Lil’ Abner, Pogo, Kudzu, Song of the South, and King Of The Hill. The original exhibit was created by Levine Museum historian Dr. Tom Hanchett, with assistance from locally based cartoonists Jim Scancarelli (Gasoline Alley) and Marcus Hamilton (Dennis the Menace). The exhibit runs through April 2008. For more information, call 704.333.1887 or visit www.museumofthenewsouth.org.
