Recognition Coordinator
Quick Chek Corporation
Whitehouse Station, N.J.
Describe your event.
Quick Chek Corporation holds its annual Recognition & Celebration weekend at the Lancaster Host Resort & Conference Center for our top achievers of the year. We generally have over 300 people at this event, which includes spouses and significant others. The purpose of this meeting is to honor our award winners with a weekend away. Our event begins on Friday night when most of our attendees come in and relax, dine and spend time with other fellow team members. On Saturday we get together for a business session. Then the attendees have the balance of the
afternoon to enjoy the flavor of Lancaster County. Saturday evening is our awards banquet, followed by an evening of entertainment. On Sunday our CEO gives us a brief business review and then we depart.
Why did you decide to host the meeting in Lancaster?
Lancaster is a good fit for our event, as the distance for most of our attendees is no more than a few hours from their home base, which makes for a great getaway weekend.
What surprised you the most about Lancaster?
Most of our attendees were surprised by what Lancaster County had to offer. The countryside, the Amish style of living and of course the outlet
shopping were crowd-pleasers, especially for the spouses and significant others.
What did your attendees seem to enjoy the most?
Our attendees really enjoyed the variety
of activities we offered them for the weekend. We had some business, pleasure, awards, and
golf, and they liked sharing these activities with their spouses, significant others and peers.
Was anybody particularly helpful?
The Lancaster Host Resort personnel along with my consultant,
Ron Asher at Zero In Productions, have been most valuable in the planning and execution
of this successful event year after year.
Is there anything you wish you had known beforehand?
Because of the hotel staff being
knowledgeable and informative, our event planning was most successful.
What other types of groups would fit well with the hotel and convention center?
The
Lancaster Host Resort & Conference Center is unique in that small, medium or large groups
can hold any event at this facility. They have an expo center that can fit most trade shows, a
ballroom that can accommodate an elegant dinner or activity and a showroom for any type of
major entertainment. They can accommodate whatever your event and budget can handle.
How does Lancaster compare to other cities where you have hosted meetings?
Lancaster
is like a step back in time, with its beautiful countryside, the Amish people and antiques, while it
still feels like home with all the outlet shopping.
Would you return?
We have been going to Lancaster County for the past nine years and this
year will be no exception.
Do you have any advice for other planners who might bring a meeting to Lancaster?
My
advice to other meeting planners would be to take advantage of all that Lancaster has to offer—
dining, the Amish culture, shopping, golf, local tours, and the community flavor.
