Connecticut
  • The 826-room MGM Grand at Foxwoods (860.312.2255; www.foxwoods.com) is slated to open next spring at the Foxwoods Casino Resort in Mashantucket. The property will include 115,000 square feet of meeting space, a 4,000-seat theater, a spa, and a restaurant operated by celebrity chef Michael Schlow.

  • A $15 million renovation is scheduled to begin in January at the Stamford Holiday Inn Downtown (203.358.8400; www.ichotelsgroup.com) in Stamford. The project, slated for completion next spring, will include the refurbishment of all 380 guest rooms and the addition of a health club.

Maine
  • The Saddleback Ski Area (207.864.5671; www.saddlebackmaine.com) in Rangeley was granted local approval for a plan to develop a year-round resort village and add nine new lifts, trails and other ski facilities.

  • Big Squaw Mountain Resort (207.695.1000; www.bigsquawmountain.com), a ski resort with a 52-room lodge outside Greenville, is making preliminary plans for a major expansion that may include an 18-hole golf course, two hotels and conference facilities.

Massachusetts
  • The 150-room Regent Boston at Battery Wharf (800.545.4000; www.regenthotels.com) is scheduled to open next spring as part of a mixed-use complex on Boston’s North End waterfront. Amenities at the luxury property will include a full-service spa and a restaurant operated by three-star Michelin chef Guy Martin.

  • The 471-room Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel (617.338.4111; www.marriott.com) is scheduled to open in January on the South Boston waterfront. The hotel will feature 20,740 square feet of meeting space.

  • The 300-room <>b>Liberty Hotel (617.399 .4260; www.libertyhotel.com) recently opened in Boston’s Beacon Hill neighborhood. The luxury hotel, which offers 6,000 square feet of meeting space, is a conversion of the historic Charles Street Jail and has preserved some of the original design features, including catwalks and jail cells.

  • The Boston Museum of Fine Arts (617.267.9300; www.mfa.org) is undergoing a $450 million expansion that will feature a new American Wing to house its Art of the Americas collection. The 681,000-square-foot addition, set for completion in 2010, will include a spacious, glass-enclosed courtyard available for year-round events.

  • The Institute of Contemporary Art (617.478.3100; www.icaboston.org) opened in Boston in December. The waterfront museum and performing arts center offers several venues, including a glass-walled lobby with views of the Boston skyline, a 325-seat theater equipped for new product launches and an outdoor waterfront patio that can be tented in inclement weather.

  • The Richard E. Wylie Conference & Education Center (978.867.1956; www.wyliecenter.com), an IACC-approved conference facility at Endicott College in Beverly, is opening an adjacent 92-room hotel in November. The accommodations will feature luxury bedding, workstations, wireless Internet, flat-screen TVs, refrigerators, and other amenities.

New Hampshire
  • The Mount Washington Resort (603.278 .8813; www.mountwashingtonresort.com) in Bretton Woods plans to unveil a new 25,000-square-foot conference center this fall.

  • The 90-room Courtyard by Marriott (603.225.0303; www.marriott.com) in Concord and the adjacent Grappone Conference Center recently completed a renovation project that included enhancements to guest rooms and meeting areas.

Rhode Island
  • In downtown Providence, the Renaissance Providence Hotel (401.276.0100; www.marriott.com) opened in May in a 1929 building that originally served as a Masonic Temple. The 274-room property offers 10,000 square feet of meeting space.

  • The Westin Providence Hotel (401.598 .8000; www.westin.com) unveiled a new 200-room tower in August, bringing its total room count to 574.

  • The 164-room NYLO Warwick (866.206.NYLO; www.nylohotels.com) is scheduled to open next summer in Pontiac Mills, a mixed-use community in Warwick where 19th century textile mills are being converted to house restaurants, residences, offices, and boutiques.

Vermont
  • The Stowe Mountain Lodge (802.253 .3558; www.stowemountainlodge.com), a 139-room luxury property operated by Destination Hotels & Resorts, is slated to open in Stowe by the end of the year. The hotel will include 12,100 square feet of meeting space, an 18-hole golf course and a spa.

  • A former 258-room Wyndham property in Burlington was reflagged the Hilton Burlington (802.658.6500; www.hilton.com) following a $16 million renovation.
