Short Takes

Museums & Attractions
  • VisitPittsburgh is among the first tourism organizations to create made-for-mobile video tours. Working with MoGoes, a mobile technology company launched in Pittsburgh earlier this year, video tours are viewable on mobile devices such as iPods and Zunes, and will soon be available on video-enabled mobile phones. The 10- to 15-minute walking tours feature the highlights and history of Pittsburgh’s downtown and other areas, and are available for download at www.visitpittsburgh.com.

  • For those with a sweet tooth and sense of adventure, Hershey Meetings, based in Hershey, Penn., is now offering groups team-building opportunities with its Hershey Leadership & Development Center. Group activities include the Odyssey ropes course, scavenger hunts, GPS orienteering, pumpkin carving, interactive chef demos, and golf clinics. Groups can stay at Hotel Hershey or Hershey Lodge, which combined offer 100,000 square feet of meeting space. For more information, call 717.520.5837 or visit www.herseymeetings.com.

Programs & Packages
  • Glen Cove Mansion Hotel and Conference Center in Long Island, N.Y., implemented its Time & Money Well Spent meeting package. For the price of a single hotel room in Manhattan, the package includes lodging, dining and golf. The package, which starts at $359 per person, includes a round of golf for every conference guest at the Glen Cove Golf Club, a members-only course. For more information, call 516.674.2940 or visit www.glencovemansion.com.

  • Loews Hotels is offering its Modest Needs promotion for groups. For meetings booked and completed through Dec. 31, Loews will contribute a donation on behalf of the booking organization to Modest Needs, a foundation dedicated to poverty prevention. The charity operates entirely via the Internet, so groups can choose which applications are funded during the course of their meeting. Donations to Modest Needs will be based on the number of rooms booked and range from $500 to $1,000. The program is part of Loews Hotels Good Neighbor policy, the company’s commitment to helping communities where they own and operate hotels. Other projects include donating excess food to local food banks, supporting local literacy programs and encouraging volunteer activities for hotel employees. For more information, call 212.521.2000 or visit www.loewshotels.com.
