- The Kansas City Marriott Downtown (816.421.6800; www.marriott.com/mcidt) plans to complete a guest room makeover by fall 2008. The hotel offers 983 guest rooms and more than 100,000 square feet of function space.
- The InterContinental Kansas City at the Plaza (816.756.1500; www.kansascityic.com) plans to finish a $15 million guest room and public space renovation by the end of the year. The hotel offers 366 guest rooms and more than 29,000 square feet of meeting space.
- The Raphael Hotel (816.756.3800; www.raphaelkc.com) plans to wrap up a property-wide renovation in June 2008. The project will add two meeting rooms to its inventory.
- The Embassy Suites Kansas City–Plaza (816.756.1720; www.embassysuites.com) plans to finish a $12 million renovation by the end of the year. The project will include guest room enhancements and upgrades to the lobby, restaurant and exterior. The hotel offers 266 suites and more than 11,000 square feet of meeting space.
- The Clarion Hotel Sports Complex (816.737.0200; www.clarionkcmo.com) plans to change its name to the Sheraton Kansas City Sports Complex by mid-November after renovating its guest rooms, lobby, meeting space, and restaurant. The facility also plans to add a 4,000-square-foot arcade and a 65,000-square-foot waterpark next spring. The property offers 374 guest rooms and 16,000 square feet of meeting space.
- The Radisson Hotel and Suites Kansas City–City Center was recently reflagged the Crowne Plaza Hotel Kansas City Downtown (816.474.6664; www.ichotelsgroup.com). The hotel houses 388 guest rooms and 13,000 square feet of meeting space.
- The Holiday Inn Aladdin Kansas City (816.421.8888; www.ichotelsgroup.com) reopened in May after being closed for about three years. The property was converted into a boutique hotel and now hosts 192 guest rooms and 4,000 square feet of meeting space.
The Holiday Inn Kansas City Airport (816.801.8400; www.ichotelsgroup.com) opened last year with 141 guest rooms and 5,000 square feet of meeting space.
- Argosy Casino Hotel & Spa (816.746.3100; www.argosy.com), located about six miles north of Kansas City in Riverside, opened its hotel and spa portion in April. The facility contains 258 guest rooms and 22,000 square feet of meeting space.
- The Kansas City Convention Center (816.513.5000; www.kcconvention.com) added a 46,500-square-foot ballroom in April. The convention center features nearly 400,000 square feet of exhibition space.
- Kansas City welcomed the $276 million Sprint Center (816.283.7300; www.sprintcenter.com) Oct. 13 with a concert by Elton John. The facility houses 18,500 seats and is designed for major sporting and entertainment events.
- The $850 million Power & Light District (410.752.5444; www.powerandlightdistrict.com) is slated to open next spring. The district, which already includes the new Sprint Center, will offer shops, restaurants, entertainment venues, and an outdoor pavilion that will stage concerts.
- The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art (816.751.1278; www.nelson-atkins.org) completed an expansion and renovation in June. The museum has a variety of venues for private group events.
- The $326 million Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts (816.994.7200; www.kcperformingartscenter.org) is expected to open in December 2009. The center will contain a 1,800-seat theater hall and a 1,600-seat concert hall.
Kansas City, Kan.
- The Schlitterbahn Vacation Village (830.625.2151; www.schlitterbahn.com) is scheduled to open in 2009. The $750 million facility will feature a waterpark, dining and retail outlets, approximately 1,800 guest rooms, and meeting facilities.
- Country Inn and Suites at The Legends at Village West (800.456.4000; www.countryinns.com), located across the highway from the Kansas Speedway, is slated to open in early 2008. The hotel will house 117 guest rooms and 650 square feet of meeting space.
Overland Park
- The TownePlace Suites Kansas City Overland Park (913.851.3100; www.marriott.com) opened in September with 90 guest suites and 375 square feet of meeting space.
