Salt Lake City
  • In August 2006, the Salt Palace Convention Center (801.534.4777; www.saltpalace.com) completed a $52 million expansion project that enlarged the facility by 40 percent. The expansion added 145,000 square feet of exhibit space and 64,000 square feet of meeting space. The facility now boasts 515,000 square feet of contiguous exhibit space, 164,000 square feet of meeting space, a 45,000-square-foot ballroom, and 66 meeting rooms.

  • The 775-room Grand America Hotel (801.258.6000; www.grandamerica.com) wrapped up a renovation and expansion of its spa late last year, adding new treatment rooms and pedicure, manicure and hair stations, as well as a menu of men’s services and a house-branded line of honey-based skincare products. The property offers 80,000 square feet of meeting space.

  • Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort (801.742.2222; www.snowbird.com) in Little Cottonwood Canyon recently made several improvements to its ski facilities, including an upgrade to its snowmaking system and the installation of a new high-speed ski lift. The resort also completed a renovation of the 349-room east wing of its Cliff Lodge.

  • John Q. Hammons Hotels & Resorts (417.864.4300; www.jqhhotels.com) plans to open a 300-unit Embassy Suites Hotel and an adjoining 120,000-square-foot convention center in spring 2009 in Pleasant Grove, Utah, located just outside Salt Lake City.

Park City
  • The Deer Valley Resort (435.645.6518; www.deervalley.com) recently added Silver Baron Lodge to The Lodges at Deer Valley, a condo-hotel and conference complex. The new property offers 25 one-, two- and three-bedroom units, and 3,500 square feet of meeting space.

  • In 2009, Starwood is scheduled to open the slope-side, $300 million St. Regis Resort and Residences Deer Crest (877.787.3447; www.starwoodhotels.com) at the Deer Valley Resort. The property will feature 26 residences and 67 condominium hotel suites configured to provide 201 total guest rooms, plus 4,300 square feet of meeting space, 5,000 square feet of outdoor function space, a 20,000-square-foot spa and salon, and a ski-in, ski-out apres-ski lounge.

  • The Montage Resort (435.649.1000; www.deervalley.com) is slated to open in 2010 on the site of an old silver mine at the Deer Valley Resort. The luxury property will include 178 hotel rooms and suites, 15,000 square feet of meeting space, two restaurants, retail shops, and a 35,000-square-foot spa.

  • The boutique Sky Lodge (435.658.3336; www.theskylodge.com) is scheduled to open Dec. 26. The $35 million property will offer one-, two- and three-bedroom condo units and 1,500 square feet of meeting space.

  • The Newpark Hotel (435.649.3600; www.newparkresort.com) is set to open in January. The property, which will have LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, will feature 69 condos, configurable to 135 rentable units, along with 6,000 square feet of meeting space.

  • The Canyons Resort (435.649.5400; www.thecanyons.com), home of The Canyons Grand Summit Hotel, recently poured $10 million into several upgrades, including new and improved ski lifts and the expansion and renovation of the Red Pine Lodge for on-mountain lunches. Earlier this year, the 220-unit Silverado Lodge condo-hotel opened with over 3,000 square feet of meeting space.

  • The Park City Marriott (435.649.2400; www.marriott.com) recently completed a $4 million renovation of its lobby, 199 guest rooms and 8,000 square feet of meeting space.

  • The Goldener Hirsch Inn (435.649.7770; www.goldenerhirschinn.com), a 20-room Austrian-style hotel, added a private dining room that seats 36 people.

  • Zermatt Resort and Spa (435.657.0180; www.zermatt.dolce.com), a Dolce International property, opened last year in Midway, about 17 miles south of Park City. The resort features 226 rooms and 126 condominium villas, plus a 28,000-square-foot conference center, a 13,000-square-foot exhibition center and a 17,000-square-foot spa.
