- A $40 million renovation expansion was launched in June at the Omni Tucson National Golf Resort & Spa (520.297.2271; www.omnihotels.com) in Tucson. Scheduled for completion in late 2008, the resort will feature a redesigned main lobby, a new grand ballroom and 72 new guest rooms, bringing its total to 239. A second 18-hole golf course opened at the resort last year.
- The Four Seasons Scottsdale at Troon North (480.515.5700; www.fourseasons.com) is set to complete a $14 million renovation this month that includes the refurbishment of its 210 guest rooms and suites. The two championship golf courses at the adjacent Troon North Golf Club have just emerged from a two-year redesign.
- The Camelback Inn, A JW Marriott Resort & Spa (480.948.1700; www.camelbackinn.com) will wind up a $45 million renovation in March that includes a complete redesign of its 20,000-square-foot Grand Ballroom and the addition of two new restaurants. The resort’s Camelback Golf Club offers two 18-hole championship golf courses, a practice facility and a clubhouse with meeting space for up to 300 people.
California
- The 144-room Carmel Valley Ranch (831.625.9500; www.carmelvalleyranch.com) in Carmel recently reopened its Pete Dye-designed golf course after a multimillion-dollar renovation and restoration. The adjoining clubhouse has also been renovated.
- The 249-room Grand Del Mar Resort (619.231.3800; www.thegranddelmar.com) has opened north of San Diego in Del Mar. The luxury resort, which is situated on the fairways of an 18-hole, Tom Fazio-designed golf course, also offers a spa and 20,000 square feet of meeting space.
- Construction is under way on the 582-room Terranea Resort (www.terranea.com) in Rancho Palos Verdes near Los Angeles. The oceanfront property will include 63,000 square feet of meeting space and a nine-hole golf course with a golf school and training facility.
- The Indian Wells Golf Resort (760,346.4653; www.indianwellsgolfresort.com) in Indian Wells has wrapped up a $61 million expansion and renovation of its golf facilities. Along with the restoration of its two golf courses, the project included a new putting course, practice facility and clubhouse with multiple restaurants, a pro shop and indoor and outdoor meeting space. The golf courses and facilities are adjacent to the Miramonte Resort, Hyatt Grand Champions Resort, Indian Wells Hotel, and Renaissance Esmeralda Resort.
Hawaii
- The Mauna Kea Beach Hotel (808.882.7222; www.maunakeabeachhotel.com), currently closed for repairs of earthquake damage, is expected to reopen in fall 2008. Also closed, the resort’s Mauna Kea Golf Course is undergoing a renovation that not only includes the fairways and greens, but the adjoining clubhouse and restaurant. The golf course is scheduled to reopen in late 2008.
New Mexico
- The Hilton Santa Fe Buffalo Thunder Resort (www.hiltonworldresorts.com), a 390-room resort with two 18-hole golf courses, is under construction at the Pojoaque Pueblo north of Santa Fe. Scheduled to open in late 2008, the resort will also offer an events center, theater, Indian Cultural Center, full-service spa, casino, two swimming pools, and equestrian trails.
Washington
- The Chambers Bay Golf Course (253.798.4050; www.chambersbaygolf.com) opened in June in University Place, just west of Tacoma. The 18-hole, Scottish links-style golf course offers panoramic views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains and includes a practice facility and a clubhouse with indoor banquet space for up to 60 people. Up to 500 people can be accommodated in a tented event pavilion and outdoor patio.
Mexico
- Jack Nicklaus Design is creating two 18-hole golf courses with fairways along ocean cliffs that will be part of Cabo Pacifica (www.cabopacifica.com.mx), a master-planned resort community near Cabo San Lucas and adjacent to the Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach Hotel. The golf courses are scheduled to open in fall 2008.
Western Canada
- The Quaaout Resort & Conference Centre (250.679.3090; www.quaaout.com), located in the Shuswap Lakes area between Salmon Arm and Kamloops, British Columbia, opened the 18-hole, championship Talking Rock golf course in August. The 72-room resort offers a spa, restaurant, dinner theater, and 5,000 square feet of meeting space.
