For a relatively small place, Hong Kong really packs in the sights. Here, courtesy of the Hong Kong Tourism Board (www.discoverhongkong.com) are some of the city's must-sees:
Victoria Peak
From Victoria Peak's summit, visitors can gaze down on the jungle of skyscrapers and Victoria Harbor, where ferries and pleasure junks glide by. At night, the area becomes a spectacle of lights.
Open-Air Markets
Visit the Ladies' Market in Mong Kok for inexpensive fashion items or Yau Ma Tei's Temple Street Night Market for anything from souvenir items ("My mom went to Hong Kong and all I got was this lousy t-shirt!") to electronics. Visitors should also check out the markets dedicated to birds and flowers.
Ocean Park
One of the biggest entertainment complexes of its kind in Asia, the park has a reef aquarium, giant pandas, roller-coasters, a Kid's World, and an interactive Discovery of the Ancient World exhibit.
Repulse Bay
Repulse Bay is one of the most accessible and picturesque beaches on the south side of Hong Kong Island.
Wong Tai Sin Temple
Decorated in a riot of colors, Wong Tai Sin is one of Hong Kong's best examples of a traditional Chinese temple. Yellow latticework and multicolored carvings complement the temple's red pillars and golden roof.
Aberdeen
Aberdeen is a scenic highlight of any trip around Hong Kong Island. Brightly decorated trawlers, which double as floating homes for Aberdeen's fishermen, fill a sheltered harbor whose hillsides are decked with woodland and residential towers--not to mention Hong Kong's famously glitzy floating restaurants.
