New York’s Niagara County Clerk, Wayne Jagow, knew Niagara Falls, N.Y., was an ideal place to host a meeting, but nearly two years after he organized a summer gathering for the New York State Association of County Clerks, he had no idea people would still be raving about it.
“We had 62 counties represented. It was really a cross-section of all of New York State,” he says. “People are still talking about the wonderful experience that they had.”
For his 2006 meeting, Jagow says the group used The Conference Center Niagara Falls, which was a true hit.
“The conference center was a top-of-the-line facility not only for our meetings, but our vendors loved the way it was laid out, too,” he says.
After a day of meetings, Jagow had a docket of activities planned, so many in fact that he had to pick and choose.
“The most frustrating problem we had was that we had to limit what we were going to offer for our attendees,” he says. “There was just so much to do.”
Jagow showcased the beauty of the falls to several of his attendees with cruises on the Maid of the Mist and hikes to the Cave of the Winds, while others choose to participate in a tournament at the Niagara Frontier Golf Course.
Attendees were also taken on a tour of the Niagara Power Project’s Power Vista, where visitors were able to witness the hydroelectric power produced by the falls and enjoy a sweeping view of the area.
“I was amazed at the response of the people when we visited the Power Vista,” Jagow says. “It was really a fascinating thing for them and a must-see when visiting Niagara.”
The next day, Jagow says the group visited Old Fort Niagara, and says they were “just enthralled” by the 18th and 19th century historical memorabilia.
This year, Jagow is busy planning the 2009 meeting for the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York. The event will welcome more than 3,000 delegates to Niagara Falls, N.Y., and Jagow couldn’t be more excited.
“Things have really come alive since 2006,” he says. “There are even more activities [in Niagara Falls, N.Y.]. I am extremely proud and excited about this.”
Jagow says the meeting will also be held at The Conference Center Niagara Falls.
“When we showed the Firemen’s Association the conference center, they were like kids in a candy store because it so much enhanced what they wanted for their meeting,” he says. “It is just a fantastic multipurpose facility.”
