Monterey

  • The Hyatt Regency Monterey (831.372.1234; www.monterey.hyatt.com) recently embarked on the second phase of a $55 million makeover that will complete the renovation of all 575 guest rooms by the end of May. The resort is also adding a full-service spa, expected to be finished in October.

  • Set for a summer opening, the 208-room InterContinental The Clement Monterey (831.375.4500; www.intercontinental.com) will be an $80 million luxury waterfront property on Cannery Row next to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The hotel will include a spa, high-end shops and 10,200 square feet of meeting space.

  • The Monterey Hotel (831.375.3184; www.montereyhotel.com) is wrapping up an expansion that includes a new spa, 454 square feet of additional meeting space and 24 guest rooms with fireplaces. The historic property in downtown Monterey currently offers 45 guest rooms and 800 square feet of meeting space.

  • The Monterey Marriott (831.649.4234; www.marriotthotels.com) completed a renovation of its 10th-floor ballroom in January.

  • Fairmont Hotels and Resorts (www.fairmont.com) plans to open a $100 million mixed-use resort in Seaside. The property, set for completion in 2010, will feature 330 guest rooms, 24,000 square feet of meeting space, a Willow Stream spa, two 18-hole golf courses, and residential units.

  • The Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa (831.646.1700; www.montereyplazahotel.com) recently completed a $4 million renovation of its 18,000 square feet of meeting space that included the installation of upgraded audiovisual and wireless features.

  • The 166-room Casa Munras Garden Hotel (831.375.2411; www.casamunras-hotel.com) plans to complete a renovation this fall that includes a refurbishment of its meeting space and the addition of a new spa and restaurant.

Carmel
  • Carmel Valley Ranch Resort (831.625.9500; www.carmelvalleyranch.com) completed a $12 million renovation in January that included a makeover of the lobby and the 3,200-square-foot Arbor Ballroom and adjoining courtyard. Last year the resort unveiled a restoration of its Pete Dye-designed golf course and a renovation of its clubhouse.

Salinas
  • Coastal Hotel Group (www.coastalhotels.com) has been tapped to operate an upscale property planned for a 2011 opening on a site next to the National Steinbeck Center in downtown Salinas. Preliminary plans call for 140 to 160 guest rooms and meeting facilities accommodating groups of up to 500 people.

Santa Cruz
  • Chaminade (831.457.5600; www.chaminade.com) recently completed a renovation that included the upgrade of conference space and the addition of 1,500 square feet of meeting space.

  • The Santa Cruz Dream Inn (831.426.4330; www.jdvhospitality.com), formerly the Coast Santa Cruz Hotel, is undergoing a major renovation of guest rooms, public space and meeting facilities. The project, scheduled for completion this summer, will include expanded meeting and banquet space. Recently acquired by Joie de Vivre Hospitality, the hotel is being repositioned as a four-star luxury property.
