Museums & Attractions
- The Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) plans to open the Chace Center, an expansion of its RISD Museum, in September. The new building, a five-story, 43,000-square-foot structure designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jose Rafael Moneo, will debut this fall. The Chace Center will provide Providence with more than 6,100 square feet of new temporary exhibition space—more than double the size of the museum’s largest existing gallery. The new addition is specifically designed for changing exhibitions and can accommodate contemporary works of art as well as traveling shows of national prominence. To mark the opening, RISD alumnus and glass artist Dale Chihuly will create a special installation to be featured as the inaugural exhibition.
