Shanghai has earned its nicknames "Shopping Paradise" and the "Oriental Paris" by managing to be all things to nearly all shoppers. Here, courtesy of the Shanghai Municipal Tourism office, is a rundown of the different shopping districts:
Nanjing Road
"China's No.1 Commercial Street," as it's also known, is a must for all visitors and offers everything under the sun.
Huaihai Road
An elegant thoroughfare, this street attracts thousands of young people on the prowl for the latest fashion trends.
Shanghai Railroad Station
The modern Xujiahui Commercial Town, the traditional Yu Yuan Bazaar and the Kerry Ever Bright City are all near the exit of the Shanghai Railroad Station, and are all prime locations for avid shoppers.
Zhangyang Road Commercial City
In Pudong, there are rows and rows of shops and stands that sell souvenirs and local artisanal goods. The items on sale span the range from deliciously kitschy to one-of-a-kind works of art.
Fuzhou Road
Here, book stores are lined up one after the other. Some bibliophile must-sees include Shanghai Book Town, Science and Technology Book Shop and the Ancient Book Shop.
