The 700,000-square-foot McCormick Place West (312.791.7000; www.mccormickplace.com ) debuted last July. Highlights include a 100,000-square-foot ballroom, a covered terrace accommodating 800 people and a 250-seat fine-dining restaurant.
The 200-room Shangri-La Hotel (866.565.5050; www.shangri-la.com) is slated to open in early 2009 as the first Shangri-La Hotel in the U.S. The property will feature private function rooms and a grand ballroom seating 180 people.
Starwood Hotels and Resorts (262.502.5500; www.starwoodhotels.com) is opening two aloft properties in Chicago: the 165-room aloft Millennium Park, slated for a November 2009 debut, and the aloft Chicago O’Hare, slated to be unveiled this August with 251 guest rooms and two meeting rooms.
Mandarin Oriental (312.540.1515; www.mandarinorientaltower.com) will open adjacent to Millennium Park in spring 2009. The 74-story property will feature 250 hotel condo units, 150 tower condo units and 100 residences.
A Mondrian hotel will replace the Cedar Hotel, preserving its historic facade. Mondrian Chicago (www.morganshotelgroup.com), which is expected to open in 2010, will feature 200 guest rooms as well as meeting facilities.
The $60 million Dana Hotel and Spa (888.301.3262; www.danahotelandspa.com) is slated to open at the end of May in the River North neighborhood. This summer, the 216-room hotel will debut a full floor dedicated to meeting facilities and special events for up to 100 people.
The Avenue (877.AVE.5110; www.avenuehotelchicago.com), formerly a Radisson, is scheduled to open in May with 150 one-bedroom and junior suites and 200 guest rooms. The hotel will offer more than 18,000 square feet of function space.
The Elysian (312.664.9500; www.elysianhotels.com) is scheduled to open by the end of the year with 188 hotel suites and 51 private residences. The boutique hotel will offer three salons for meetings and private parties and a full-service spa.
The 216-room Hyatt Place Chicago (847. 839.1800; www.hyatt.com) is scheduled to open at the end of 2009.
The Grand Imperial Hotel, a 15-story hotel with 171 rooms, is set to debut in spring 2009. Located in Chinatown, the $50 million hotel will feature 6,000 square feet of retail space and a 7,000-square-foot restaurant.
The 339-room Trump International Hotel and Tower (312.644.0900; www.trumpchicago.com) opened in January. The 92-story building features 20,000 square feet of meeting space.
Chicago’s former landmark Hotel of Presidents reopened in March as The Blackstone, A Renaissance Hotel (312.447.0955; www.marriott.com) following a $128 million renovation. The property has 332 guest rooms and suites and 20,000 square feet of meeting space.
The 353-room House of Blues Hotel completed a $17 million makeover and was renamed the Hotel Sax Chicago (877.569.3742; www.hotelsaxchicago.com) last summer.
The historic Hotel Cass reopened last September as the Hotel Cass–A Holiday Inn Express (312.787.4030; www.casshotel.com) following a $16 million redevelopment.
The Fairmont Chicago (312.565.8000; www.fairmont.com) completed a renovation in January, adding 88 condo hotel rooms and a spa.
In April, Affinia Chicago (312.787.6000; www.affinia.com) completed a $25 million renovation. The makeover includes upgrades to its 215 guest rooms, lobby and meeting space, as well as a new rooftop bar.
The Holiday Inn Chicago Mart Plaza (312.836.5000; www.martplaza.com) recently completed more than $25 million in renovations, including upgrades to its 521 guest rooms and suites, and 25,000 square feet of meeting space.
Swissotel Chicago (312.565.0565; www.swissotelchicago.com) wrapped up a $23 million room renovation in April, and in June 2009 the hotel is slated to finish a $47 million meeting and conference expansion, which will feature 50,000 square feet of meeting space.
The 285-room Ambassador East Hotel (312.787.7200; www.theambassadoreasthotel.com) is scheduled for a multimillion-dollar renovation and a reflagging to a Hilton next fall.
The Allerton Hotel Chicago (312.440.1500; www.theallertonhotel.com), built in 1922, dropped its Crowne Plaza affiliation last year and plans to finish a $10 million renovation of its 443 guest rooms, lobby and meeting space this June. The project includes the conversion of the third floor into a ballroom and meeting facility overlooking the Chicago Water Tower.
The historic Palmer House Hilton (312.726.7500; www.hilton.com) plans to finish a $150 million guest room renovation this spring. The upgrade also includes the addition of a 13,000-square-foot spa.
The landmark Millennium Knickerbocker Hotel Chicago (312.751.8100; www.millenniumhotels.com) plans to finish a multimillion-dollar renovation of its guest rooms, lobby, dining room and lounge in June.
