The American Club at Destination Kohler
The Village of Kohler, Wis.
What services can you provide to groups that they normally might not receive?
When it comes to providing for the needs of groups that arrive at The American Club, our conference service managers see everything through to completion, therefore eliminating the need for a destination management company.
What are your group restaurant recommendations?
The Kitchens of Kohler restaurants at the resort are all highly recommended. Whether it’s a sumptuous breakfast buffet, a leisurely afternoon tea or an elegant five-course dinner, dining in the Village of Kohler is a gastronomic delight. With nine distinctive dining establishments, including a charming stained glass dessert house and a fortified British Isles Farmhouse overlooking Lake Michigan, The Kitchens of Kohler offer a dining experience for every taste.
What are your bar or nightclub recommendations?
Our Horse & Plow at The American Club in Kohler offers more than 100 regional bottled beers and 12 Wisconsin beers on tap. This casual historic tavern was once the tap room for Kohler Co. employees who lived at The American Club.
The SkyBox Sports Pub and Grille in Sheboygan offers 22 televisions for viewing all broadcasted sporting events. SkyBox has a large collection of sports memorabilia on display that will interest every sports fan.
Can you recommend a good place to take a stroll?
During the warmer months, the Courtyard Gardens of The American Club offer a wonderful opportunity to observe the various kinds of flowers, bushes, ground cover, grasses, and trees. The Wisconsin Woodland Courtyard Garden features many plants that grow naturally in the Midwest. A little stream is included in this garden, which is such a delight to hear as it rushes over large stones. The Lantern Garden offers a delightful walk with lanterns softly aglow along the pathway.
Are there any quirky places we should check out?
The John Michael Kohler Arts Center is certainly the place to find very unusual works of art. Stop at ARTspace, a unique shop in the Arts Center, or taste one of the scrumptious soups that are made fresh daily at the ARTcafe.
If we only have an hour or two, what should we definitely check out nearby?
The Kohler Design Center is a must to see and it is just a block from The American Club. It showcases 26 designer rooms and vignettes arranged by nationally accredited ASID designers. The museum in the Design Center displays exhibits that depict the evolution of both the Kohler Co. and the Village that bears its name.
A party of 12 wants to have dinner right away. What restaurant can accommodate last-minute requests of this size?
The concierge staff would quickly call the various restaurants in order of the group’s preference to check on immediate availability. We would do our best to accommodate them and also provide transportation on the resort shuttle to the restaurant venue. All of our restaurants would be great options—as long as there are 12 seats available!
What’s a unique event that has taken place at your property?
The Straits course at Whistling Straits hosted the 2004 PGA Championship. After 72 holes, three players were tied for the lead, forcing a three-hole playoff, where Vijay Singh came out victorious, winning his second PGA Championship title.
Every October, Destination Kohler hosts the Kohler Food & Wine Experience, showcasing nationally renowned celebrity chefs, wine experts and regional restaurateurs. The event offers a weekend full of flavor with gala wine tasting events, wine and spirits seminars, culinary demonstrations, artisan cheeses and gourmet food makers, and specialty shopping.
