What are three great cultural institutions in Newport News that you would recommend for off-site events?

  • Virginia Living Museum: Explore Virginia’s natural heritage from the mountains to the sea at the Virginia Living Museum. Experience a cypress swamp, a mountain cove, the underwater world of the Chesapeake Bay, and the underground realm of a cave. Enjoy hands-on activities and an observatory. Outdoors, enjoy a stroll on the boardwalk and view animals in naturalized habitats. This museum is perfect for receptions, corporate parties, banquets, and celebrations of all kinds for up to 800 people.

  • The Mariners’ Museum: Designated by Congress as America’s National Maritime Museum, The Mariners’ Museum offers the perfect setting to “sail” through your off-site event. Explore the International Small Craft Collection, the renowned miniature ships of August and Winifred Crabtree and one of the world’s largest collections of maritime treasures. Walk the deck of a full-scale replica of a Civil War icon and relive the historic Battle of the Ironclads at USS Monitor Center. With a main lobby of 14,760 square feet, two courtyards and other versatile event spaces, the museum can host functions for up to 600 people.

  • Virginia War Museum: Experience the personal side of military history at the Virginia War Museum, where your group can meet and mingle with people from the past, such as Civil War Gen. John B. Magruder, a Salvation Army “Donut Girl” from World War I and an Army staff sergeant from World War II. Hear the stories of those who have fought for our nation’s freedom and discover dozens of personal artifacts, including Harry Truman’s World War I helmet. The museum’s theater room hosts functions for up to 80 people.
