Salt Lake City
  • City Creek Center (248.258.7306; www.downtownrising.com/city_creek), scheduled for completion in 2012, is a $1.5 billion multiuse project located directly across the street from the Salt Palace Convention Center. The walkable urban community of residences, offices and retail stores will grow over the next four years on approximately 20 acres across three blocks in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City.

  • The Salt City Plaza (605.229.8685; www.utahhospitality.com) in downtown Salt Lake City will be a high-end, mixed-use development featuring hotels, restaurants and retail space. When complete, the project will feature four branded hotels with a total of 542 guest rooms. A definitive timeline was not available at press time.

  • The Gateway Hyatt Place (888.492.8847; www.hyatt.com/hyatt/place) in downtown Salt Lake City is scheduled to open in spring 2009 with 128 guest rooms.

Park City
  • The Waldorf=Astoria collection will open its first ski resort property, Dakota Mountain Lodge (www.dakotamountainlodge.com), at The Canyons Resort in 2009. The property will have 197 guest accommodations and will also include a signature restaurant, lounge and ballroom. A 20,000-square-foot Golden Door Spa will be located next door.

  • St. Regis Deer Crest (435.649.7170; www.stregisdeercrest.com) is currently under construction on the slopes of Deer Valley Resort and is expected to open in early 2009. The property will have a 4,000-square-foot ballroom, a lounge with 12-foot windows to frame the mountains and 181 guest rooms.

    Montage Resort & Spa at Deer Valley (602.648.6520; www.athensdevco.com/deervalley.php) is under construction at Deer Valley Resort and slated to open in fall 2010 with 173 guest rooms, 15,000 square feet of meeting space and a 35,000-square-foot spa.

Utah Valley


  • Two properties recently opened adjacent to Thanksgiving Point Village in Lehi. The 76-room Hampton Inn (801.766.1186; hamptoninn.hilton.com) offers several guest amenities, including a business center, as does the SpringHill Suites Lehi at Thanksgiving Point (801.341.6970; www.marriott.com), which has 96 guest rooms and a meeting room.

  • Another SpringHill Suites by Marriott (801.373.2222) is scheduled to open next to the Courtyard Marriott Provo by the end of the year. The hotel will have 82 guest rooms.

  • A new venue, Noah’s Your Place (800.MY.NOAHS; www.mynoahs.com) recently opened in Lindon. Noah’s facilities include a reception hall, a billiard theater room, conference studios, and rooftop banquet space.

Northern Utah
  • The Ogden Marriott (801.627.1190; www.marriott.com) recently completed a renovation of its 292 guest rooms. Upgrades of the lobby, bar, restaurant, and 16,000 square feet of meeting space will be completed this summer.

  • Progress continues on the Ogden Junction (www.ogdenjunction.com) mixed-use development, located within one block of downtown hotels and the Ogden Eccles Conference Center. The Salomon Center recreation building (complete with built-in team-building opportunities such as indoor sky diving, rock climbing, bowling, billiards, and miniature golf) and a 13-screen megaplex have opened.

  • At press time, Davis Conference Center (801.416.8888; www.davisconferencecenter.com) in Layton was scheduled to reopen May 2 after a $10 million project that increased its capacity by more than 27,000 square feet of space.

  • The 74-room University Inn & Conference Center (435.797.0016; www.usu.edu/univinn), located in the heart of the Utah State University campus in Logan, recently completed phase three of a four-phase renovation, including room renovations last year. The refurbished conference center will receive new auditorium seating and sound systems in winter 2009.

  • The 32,000-square-foot Riverwoods Conference Center and 115-room Marriott Spring- Hill Suites (435.755.5151; www.theriverwoods.com) are under construction in Logan and scheduled for completion in 2009.

Southern Utah


  • Brian Head Ski Resort (435.677.2035; www.brianhead.com) has added 35 percent more terrain, including two new chairlifts and a skier bridge to connect its two mountains. Construction on a new base lodge and core village, including shops, condos and restaurants, is expected to start in 2009.

  • A new Cedar City Comfort Inn and Suites (435.865.0003; www.comfortinn.com) recently opened with 82 guest accommodations and a small 1,000-square-foot conference center.

  • Red Cliffs Adventure Lodge (435.259.2002; www.redcliffslodge.com) is constructing 20 more cabins along the river, which are slated for completion by September.
