Is CSR the new ROI?

CSR, or corporate social responsibility, appears to be the latest trend on the big business front, and like its environmentally positive “green” cousin, meeting planners find themselves on the front lines when it comes to implementation and influence.

Major meetings industry associations are riding the wave by including CSR content in their gatherings.

Indeed, the keynote address at MPI’s last Professional Education Conference–North America was delivered by Tim Sanders, a former Yahoo! executive who has been delivering motivational speeches on the subject.

Sanders contends that businesses need to be good corporate citizens in order to attract the best and the brightest. They also need to treat their employees equitably, in addition to giving back to the community and not harming Mother Earth.

Of course, a prime example of this philosophy was first served up for public consumption in the classic ’70s movie Soylent Green, but let’s not take it to the extreme, people!
