Museums & Attractions

  • The reopening of Philadelphia’s Memorial Hall in Fairmount Park this October marks the first time in many years that this building will be available to the public as a special event venue. The building most recently was the headquaters for the Fairmount Park Commission. The national historic landmark features more than 156,000 square feet of event space and will be the new home for the Please Touch Museum, geared toward children. Spaces include the Great Hall, with 60-foot ceilings and a dome, and the 9,000-square-foot Carousel House, which houses the 1924 Woodside Park Dentzel Carousel. For more information, call 215.963.0667 or visit www.pleasetouchmuseum.org.

  • New York’s Museum of Modern Art is presenting Dali: Painting and Film from June 29 through Sept. 15, bringing together more than 120 paintings, photographs, drawings, and films by Salvador Dali. The exhibition explores the role that cinema played in the artist’s work, as collaborations between Dali and legendary filmmakers like Luis Bunuel and Alfred Hitchcock are displayed alongside his paintings and other works. In conjunction with the gallery exhibition, a series of screenings in the MoMA theaters will present classic and avant-garde motion pictures, including films on which he collaborated.
