Events and Special Projects Coordinator
Washington State Auto Dealers Association (WSADA)
Kent, Wash.
Describe your event.
WSADA held a recent convention at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa. We had about 520 attendees, including over 100 children. The convention allows our state’s franchised new car and truck dealer members and associate members the opportunity to hear the latest industry news, network and enjoy each others’ company at social events.
Why did you decide to host the meeting on Kauai?
Our members love Hawaii. All but two of WSADA’s last 12 conventions have been in the islands. Kauai offers an amazing variety of outdoor activities and great restaurants, and you can’t beat the wonderful service and amenities at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa.
What surprised you the most about Kauai?
I was so pleased to see that Kauai has retained its charm and small-town feel while still being able to compete with the other islands in terms of excellent dining and activities. You truly feel like you’ve been to paradise after visiting Kauai.
Was anybody particularly helpful?
Edie Hafdahl, director of sales and marketing at the Kauai Visitors Bureau, was very helpful. Ella Kaohi, catering convention service manager at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa, was unbelievably helpful and professional. She was so organized and creative and willing to do whatever it took to make our event a success.
What other types of groups would fit well with the property?
Any group, large or small, would have a great experience at the Grand Hyatt Kauai, and especially groups with children. The hotel has amazing water features, including a river pool, protected saltwater lagoons and a 150-foot water slide that will thrill kids and grown-ups, too. The Grand Hyatt Kauai’s staff was so friendly, professional and eager to help. No request was too big or small. I always got a smile and eager attitude. I know other groups would have an amazing experience as well.
