Going Green

More Coverage

Four more Orlando hotels have been named Florida Green Lodge hotels by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (850.245.2118).

The newcomers to the list include the Courtyard by Marriott Downtown, the Doubletree Hotel at the Entrance to Universal Orlando, the Orlando Airport Marriott and the Renaissance Orlando Resort at SeaWorld. They join more than 30 properties in Central Florida to receive the designation, including the Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center, the Rosen Centre Hotel, the Loews Hotels at Universal Orlando Resort, the Hilton Orlando/Altamonte Springs and the Embassy Suites Orlando North in Altamonte Springs.

In light of Florida Gov. Charlie Crist’s mandate for state offices/planners to choose green lodging, the timeliness of the first Florida Green Lodging Conference (www.floridagreenlodging.com) couldn’t be better, says Nancy Fischer, CMP, director of sales for Gainesville/Alachua County VCB, where the conference will be held this November.

“We’re trying to help hotels who don’t really know what to do,” Fischer says. “Planners who attend may even carry the message back to their preferred properties and encourage them to go green, if they haven’t already.”
