Grand Hyatt San Antonio (210.224.1234; www.grandsanantonio.hyatt.com) recently opened adjacent to the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. The hotel has 1,003 guest rooms and 115,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting space, much of which overlooks the River Walk.
JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa (888.236.2427; www.marriott.com) is slated to open in 2010 on 600 acres 20 minutes north of downtown San Antonio. It will offer 1,002 guest rooms and suites and 140,000 square feet of meeting space, as well as two Tournament Players Club golf courses and a 26,000-square-foot spa.
Westin La Cantera Resort (210.558.6500; www.westinlacantera.com) is scheduled to finish $10 million in renovations next spring. The project includes upgrades to the 508 guest rooms and suites, corridors and 39,000 square feet of function space.
The San Antonio River Walk (210.227.4262; www.thesanantonioriverwalk.com) is being expanded as part of a $345 million improvement project that will extend the city’s pathway from two to 13 miles. The extension will join the River Walk to museums, the historic Pearl Brewery and cultural attractions on the north side, as well as the city’s four Spanish colonial missions on the south side.
The 125-year-old Pearl Brewery (www.pearlbrewery.com) on the San Antonio River Walk is one of the city’s latest preservation projects. The site is emerging as an urban village where people will live, shop, work and play. The Culinary Institute of America is installing its newest campus for the study of Latin American cuisine at the site, and additional highlights include the historic Pearl Stable entertainment venue and a river theater.
San Antonio Rose LIVE Country Music Show (210.687.0214; www.sanantonioroselive.com) will debut in early 2009 at the River Walk’s historic 1926 Aztec Theatre. The Grand Ole Opry-style show will spotlight masters of country music from the 1950s through the 1970s.
