  • Tallahassee’s Goodwood Museum and Gardens is opening the Carriage House Conference Center in October. Built in the mid-19th century as a cotton and corn plantation, in 1911 it underwent major renovations that included the addition of a carriage house. Though the original carriage house was lost more than 20 years ago, many of the building’s materials and fixtures were salvaged and incorporated into the new conference center, which will feature 4,200 square feet of meeting space. Attendees will find an additional 6,000 square feet of bricked terrace. Current facilities include the Jubilee Cottage, which can seat 50 people for sit-down dinners and up to 70 people theater style. The Old Kitchen is open to executive retreats and small groups, accommodating 10 to 12 people. For more information, call 850.877.4202 or visit www.goodwoodmuseum.org.

  • Named as the three-year Turtle Awareness Partner with the Conservancy of Southwest Florida, LaPlaya Beach & Golf Resort, located in Naples, Fla., launched its Groups Go Green program as a way to protect Florida’s sea turtles through support of the Conservancy Sea Turtle Monitoring and Protection Program. Upon booking a group at the upscale resort, planners can receive a 5 percent credit to the master account, of which the full amount or a portion can be donated to the conservancy. The sea turtle tank at the conservancy is in need of major repairs from years of housing juvenile loggerhead sea turtles, and LaPlaya is offering this package as a way for groups to give back and donate to the rebuilding of the tank, which is a significant part of rescue mission efforts for the threatened loggerhead sea turtles. Groups who book the Groups Go Green package can also arrange team-building eco-excursions at the conservancy through the resort concierge. The offer is valid until Dec. 31.
