Planner's Perspective

Maureen Mausbach
Farm Loan Manager
Farm Service Agency
David City, Neb.

Describe your event.
We hosted the National Convention of Credit Specialists, which is the employee association of the Rural Development and Farm Service Agency. There were 350 attendees. It was held at The Cornhusker, A Marriott Hotel in Lincoln.

Why did you decide to host the meeting in Lincoln?
The Lincoln CVB was very helpful, and the Marriott worked very hard to get us there. We had looked at the larger city in Nebraska, but they could not meet the lower cost and also did not have locations that allowed people to walk for quick lunches and dinners.

What did your attendees seem to enjoy the most?
The low cost of food and the close proximity to restaurants and entertainment in downtown Lincoln.

Was anybody particularly helpful?
Scott Snavely at the Marriott and Derek Feyerherm at the Lincoln CVB.

Did you incorporate any interesting excursions or activities into the agenda?
We attended a Lincoln Saltdogs baseball game and had a picnic. They were so accommodating and helpful. It was a popular night! We also had an outing on Sunday to the James Arthur Vineyard near Raymond.

How does Lincoln compare to other cities where you have hosted meetings?
Lincoln was smaller, yet the cost was much less. The staff at the hotel was more accommodating than we have ever seen before.

Would you return?
Yes!

Do you have any advice for other planners who might bring a meeting to Lincoln?
Don’t be afraid to ask the Lincoln CVB for assistance. They were able to use their connections to get us tours and an outing to the vineyard that we would not have been able to line up! Let them do things for you
