The Indiana Convention Center (317.262.3400; www.icclos.com) is in the midst of a $275 million expansion that will increase exhibition space by 254,000 square feet, boost meeting room space by 63,000 square feet and bump up prefunction space by 103,000 square feet. Once complete in spring 2010, the center, combined with the newly opened Lucas Oil Stadium, will give planners more than 1.2 million square feet of meeting and event space.
The $715 million Lucas Oil Stadium (317.262.8600; www.lucasoilstadium.com) opened this summer with 183,000 square feet of contiguous exhibit space, 12 meeting rooms and a 31,000-square-foot plaza for reception and prefunction events. The facility seats up to 72,000 people for sports games and other events.
A groundbreaking was held earlier this year for the JW Marriott Complex (800.831.4004; www.marriott.com). The 1,568-room facility will be the city’s largest full-service convention hotel, with the 1,000-room JW Marriott tower, 250-room Courtyard by Marriott, 168-room Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott and 150-room SpringHill Suites. The complex will also offer 110,000 square feet of meeting space. The project is slated for completion by early 2011.
The 622-room Indianapolis Marriott Downtown (317.822.3500; www.indymarriott.com) finished a $9.5 million renovation earlier this year. The hotel, which is connected to the Indiana Convention Center via skywalk, offers 40,000 square feet of meeting space.
The Indianapolis Marriott East (317.352.1231; www.marriott.com) recently wrapped up a $6 million renovation and expansion. The hotel now offers 315 guest rooms and suites; a business center; a fitness center; a restaurant; and more than 50,000 square feet of event space.
Two new Hyatt Place properties opened this year: the Hyatt Place Indianapolis Airport (317.227.0950; www.hyattplace.com), with 134 guest rooms and 1,210 square feet of meeting space, and the Hyatt Place Indianapolis/Keystone (317.843.0064; www.hyattplace.com), with 124 guest rooms and 1,586 square feet of meeting space. Both properties were formerly part of the AmeriSuites brand.
In nearby Fishers, an Indianapolis suburb, the former Ramada Inn recently reopened as the 115-room Hotel Indigo Fishers-Indy’s Uptown (317.558.4100; www.hotelindigo.com). The property has more than 1,400 square feet of meeting space.
