- The Sheraton North Houston at George Bush International Airport reopened in November following a multimillion-dollar restoration for water damage to the lobby area, restaurant and first floor meeting space caused by Hurricane Ike. Final structural work on the atrium over the lobby was completed in January and the hotel created a 3,600-square-foot ballroom in the space of the former 150-fixed-seat auditorium that was located off the lobby. Hurricane Ike caused the entire atrium roof, including the skylights, to cave in, which nearly took the lives of seven people. The property suffered roof and water damage to its two-story atrium over its amphitheater meeting space due to high winds and heavy rains. The auditorium, which was destroyed in the storm, is being converted into multifunction space capable of handling up to 300 people. A multimillion-dollar renovation of the property’s 420 guest rooms was completed last June. For more information, call 281.442.5100 or visit www.starwoodhotels.com.
