Meeting planners who were previously priced out of first-tier cities have a lot of options in front of them in this down economy.
Destinations that previously may have turned away groups that didn’t meet their profile requirements are now back in the hunt for just about any business they can get their hands on, and are offering all manner of incentives.
But while-first-tier destinations are hustling for business, second-tier options are feeling the pain. No longer able to stake their business model solely on being less expensive than the big players, the little guy is feeling the pinch.
Our featured story this issue, “First Tier, Second Tier,” examines the major markets and how they’re positioning themselves in these tough times. Look for the next installment, covering the second tier, in our April issue.
Also, if you haven’t checked out MeetingsFocus.com recently, give it a look. We’ve done a major overhaul of the site with the goal of linking our award-winning editorial coverage with site and destination search tools in a much more intuitive fashion, including a new map function that will greatly enhance your navigation.
