- The Powerful Hand of George Bellows: Drawings is running through March 29 at Savannah’s Telfair Museum of Art. George Bellows (1882-1925) was known for his ability to capture the spirit and character of American life in the early 20th century. Known for his paintings of urban scenes, Bellows gained rapid success beginning in 1904 when he passed up a career in professional baseball to study art with Robert Henri in New York. The exhibition includes 58 drawings and related lithographs, which range from intimate studies of the artist’s friends and family to depictions of public sporting events, social gatherings and other aspects of American life. These works have not been seen together since the 1950s. For more information, call 912.790.8800 or visit www.telfair.org.
